Event Recap: Breaking the Silence at “Is This Normal?”
On Feb 19th, the Intimate Wellness Institute of Virginia (IWIVA) held the third event in our Women’s Wellness Series, “Is This Normal? Sex, Hormones, Pain & Pleasure.” We welcomed a full room of guests and a lively group online through Facebook Live. It was clear that women want real answers and are ready to speak up about their health.
If you could not make it to the two-hour open house, here are the main points from an evening focused on helping you take charge of your health and confidence.
You Asked: Is This Normal… We Answered!
Annie began the evening by recognizing and validating the experiences of the women present. She pointed out that women’s intimate health concerns are often brushed off as “just a part of getting older.”
Annie explained how hormones affect much more than just reproductive health. They also play a big role in brain health, physical wellness, emotional balance, and sexual health.
Key takeaways from Annie’s presentation:
Life Cycles & Libido: Women go through different life stages. Noticing how hormone changes affect libido is the first step toward finding answers.
Personalized Care: There is no single solution for everyone. IWIVA’s evaluation helps create a treatment plan just for you, which might include Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), Pelvic Floor Therapy, Laser Therapy, Weight Loss, or Aesthetic Gynecology.
The Ultimate Goal: We want to help you move past fear and worry. There are treatments that can help you feel like yourself again.
Overcoming Bias with State-of-the-Art Science
Dr. Nathan Guerette spoke about the real medical issues in intimate wellness and shared more about IWIVA’s mission.
He pointed out that female pelvic medicine often faces problems like limited physician training, media myths, and gender bias. IWIVA was created to address these issues by offering a welcoming space, expert staff, and the latest technology for personalized care.
Dr. Guerette focused on the real medical facts and treatments for conditions that many women keep private:
Vulvo-Vaginal Atrophy & Incontinence: He explained how pelvic support works and why incontinence is common when pelvic muscles are weak, but also very treatable.
Busting Myths: Dr. Guerette addressed common misunderstandings about cosmetic vaginal surgery and vaginal lasers, and explained how these treatments can help restore function and comfort.
Advanced Therapies: He talked about how radiofrequency treatments, advanced surgeries, and special medical devices can be matched to each patient’s needs.
A Hands-On Look at the Future of Wellness
Learning is important, but seeing the solutions in person can make you feel even more at ease.
After the presentation, guests took a tour of the IWIVA clinic to see the latest equipment in use. Dr. Guerette explained how new technologies like the Emsella Chair, which strengthens the pelvic floor without surgery, as well as the Emsculpt machine, help restore core and pelvic function.
The evening ended with great conversations, special gifts for everyone, and a raffle with three prizes.
