ICYMI: Our “Oh Mama” Event Recap (Watch the replay!)

Last week, we welcomed everyone to The Intimate Wellness Institute of Virginia for our latest Women’s Wellness Series event, “Oh Mama: What Your Mama Never Told You.” Keep reading for an “Oh Mama” event recap!

If you couldn’t join us in Midlothian, you can still be part of the conversation. Watch the full event replay here:

Evening Highlights

Instead of a formal lecture, we created a supportive and interactive community gathering. Our goal was to give honest, medically accurate answers to questions women often keep to themselves, and to help close the knowledge gap between generations.

Breaking Myths and Building Partnerships with Annie Edwards

Annie led an interactive Q&A that brought new energy to the room. She broke down myths about hormones and intimate symptoms, helping everyone see that they are not alone and that these experiences are very common. Annie talked about how hormone imbalances can affect your life and explained what patients can expect at IWIVA. She stressed that our care is always personalized, thorough, and based on listening. We want to be a real partner in helping you feel like yourself again.

From “Coping” to “Curing” with Dr. Guerette

Dr. Nathan Guerette, our specialist in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, shared helpful medical insights about why our bodies change and what we can do about it.

He explained that issues like urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and vaginal laxity are very common, but they do not have to be accepted as just part of aging or motherhood. Instead of just coping, like using pads, we should look for real solutions.

As he said at the event, “function is as important as appearance.”

The “Invisible Shift”

Dr. Guerette explained the changes that happen during perimenopause and menopause. He talked about how lower estrogen affects more than just reproductive health. It can cause the vaginal and urethral linings to thin, leading to discomfort and frequent UTIs. He also described the pelvic floor as a group of muscles and connective tissue that needs regular care, just like any other muscle group.

Modern Treatment Solutions

Thanks to new technology, there are now options between doing nothing and having major surgery. Dr. Guerette explained the advanced solutions we offer at IWIVA, including:

Energy-Based Treatments

Using medical-grade lasers and radiofrequency to safely stimulate collagen and rejuvenate tissue without the need for surgery.

Emsella and Emsculpt NEO

The Emsella chair uses focused electromagnetic technology to do thousands of strong Kegels in one session, helping to strengthen the bladder and pelvic floor.

Hormone Optimization

We explained the difference between standard HRT and bio-identical hormone therapy, and how these can help with low libido, brain fog, and fatigue.

Advanced Surgical Options

For those who need more help, he described the technology and procedures we use to permanently fix prolapse and incontinence.

Be Your Own Advocate

One of the most important lessons from the “Oh Mama” event was the value of the mother-daughter connection. Sharing these health insights across generations helps prepare the women we care about for their own changes.

You deserve care that puts you first. Speak up for yourself, ask tough questions, and look for specialists who focus on pelvic medicine and intimate wellness.
